Yah Old Man, But You Never Had This!

So I’m back in Tiruvannamalai and enjoying my rest here. Don’t have it in me to write a long post but thought I’d share a funny story. I was sitting in an internet place at a computer the other day. I was dealing with airlines on the phone and the computer at the same time and after I hung up from a call the Tamil young man next to me said to me, “Did you say ‘I love you’ to that person?” I said “No I didn’t, did I?” and he said, “Yes you did!” I guess I did. So the boy said to me, can I show you what I love? and he pulled up an email message he had with pictures of a beautiful very shapely and nude young woman. He went through the images saying this is what he loves, especially taking note of the of her waist.

A little background is needed here….. The internet cafe is across the road from the Ramana Maharshi Ashram, where endless devotees come to be in the place where he lived and spent much of his enlightened life which ended in 1950. I had actually just bought a small framed picture of Ramana (see below) to keep in my room here and had it with me at the internet cafe when this transpired

So the kid says outloud but to himself as he’s looking at this beautifully naked woman, “Ramana says ‘let go of all passions’……” I laughed outloud when I heard this and then I took the photo of Ramana I had and placed it leaning up against his computer monitor facing him. He looked at the picture and said tauntingly (referring to the image of the naked woman), “Yah old man, but you never had this!”

The joys to be found on the path to enlightenment!

I so love your writings, Ted. You will return a changed man from all these experiences. Whether to come back or not? How will you return to Mendocino and Fort Bragg and just pick up where you left off?

I am already a changed man. I have no idea how to come back and just pick up where I left off. I guess I can’t really just do that. Life is evolving quickly here and I’m doing my best to bear witness. thanks Carolyn.
